Regional Mobility Strategy Ruhr Metropolis

Mobility for One of Europe’s Largest Urban Regions

The Ruhr Metropolis is home to more than five million inhabitants and consists of highly interconnected cities, towns and rural areas. Planersocietät led a multidisciplinary consortium in developing a strategic mobility framework for the region.

The project brought together public authorities, mobility stakeholders and experts to develop a shared understanding of future mobility needs and opportunities. The final strategy outlines actions, pilot projects and governance approaches for a more connected, sustainable and resilient mobility system.

What this project demonstrates:

  • Mobility planning at metropolitan scale
  • Coordinating mobility across multiple jurisdictions
  • Building shared visions for future mobility
  • Translating regional strategies into action
  • Fostering collaboration between diverse stakeholders
